GHAZI BAROTHA
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government has formulated a comprehensive plan for the agriculture sector to facilitate farmers in getting the due price of their crop and acquiring agricultural inputs at affordable rates.
Interacting with farmers at Ghazi-Barotha on Friday, he said middle man is earning more than the farmers and the government will support the growers, enabling them to get maximum price of their produce. Responding to a demand of the farmers, Imran Khan assured them of launching a crackdown against fake and substandard pesticides.
Farmers demanded Prime Minister Khan that the government should facilitate them in installation of solar tube wells, relief in procuring fertilizers, pesticides, and quality seeds.
Earlier, addressing the launching ceremony of the Spring Tree Plantation campaign, Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the youth to play their due role in making the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami drive a success to protect the country from adverse impact of climate change.
He said that trees are vital to preserve the future of coming generations as Pakistan is amongst the ten most affected countries of the world by the negative impact of climate change. He asked the youth to protect trees and the government will provide them sports grounds. Imran Khan said 70 percent of Lahore’s tree cover was eroded and the previous regimes paid no heed to that regard. He said we have to plant more trees to reverse the adverse impact of climate change.
Responding to some demands raised by Malik Amin Aslam, the special assistant on climate change, for the area, Imran Khan announced the setting up of a Special Technology zone at Kamra. He said the entire Punjab, including Attock district, will be provided with universal health coverage under Insaf Health Card by the end of this year.
The Prime Minister said it has been the government’s policy to give priority to local people for jobs in projects established in an area.
Turning to the opposition parties, Prime Minister Imran Khan said the opposition plans to “buy” lawmakers from the ruling party to ensure more of its candidates get elected to the Senate as he continued his criticism of the opposition’s roadblocking of the open ballot proposal.
The Prime Minister said the opposition has set up a “market to buy politicians and rates have been fixed”.
The Premier said the opposition parties used to ask for open ballots earlier. “No one would dare support a secret ballot if it is known that money is given in the Senate elections.” He maintained that the opposition changed its tactic after multiple setbacks, including the Lahore rally and attempts to blackmail the government over the FATF legislation.
Continuing his criticism, the Premier reiterated that the people of Pakistan are up against “the dacoits and mafias” and the nation stands at a critical crossroads. He said that corruption was normalised in the country during previous governments and added that a “country is destroyed when its prime minister and ministers start committing corruption”.
He further added that a country that continues to seek foreign loans is not accepted in the world and the politicians of Pakistan who are now residing in foreign countries have no proof of their wealth.
