Syria has claimed to have shot down Israeli missiles fired from the Golan Heights near the capital Damascus on Friday morning.
According to Arab media, the Syrian army has said that the air defense has confirmed the Israeli offensive from the direction of the Golan Heights by targeting several locations around Damascus on Friday morning.
Syrian army said in a statement that most of the Israeli missiles were intercepted, but some missiles caused damage on the ground. Israeli army has refused to comment on the Syrian claim.
Syrian media reported on Friday, citing military sources, that the Syrian air defense forces targeted Israeli missiles in the airspace of the capital Damascus and succeeded in shooting down several of them.
According to the Syrian official news agency, the Israeli air strike targeted several areas around Damascus, causing some material damage.
Military sources did not provide further details of damage or casualties.
Arab media reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli strikes targeted Lebanese Hezbollah bases near Damascus.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has identified 52 Israeli strikes in Syria since the beginning of 2023, including 37 airstrikes, 15 ground strikes, which damaged around 106 targets. These include ammunition depots, military headquarters and vehicles.
Israeli military announced last week that an organization in Syria had launched a drone that targeted a school in the southern Israeli region of Eilat.
