Quetta September 10. The activities of Balochistan Food Authority are continuously going on to remedy the sale and supply of defective, expired and adulterated food items. In this regard, the inspection teams of the authority imposed fines on more than 30 centers in Quetta city, Dera Murad Jamali and Turbat for violating food safety laws.

 

According to the BFA spokesperson, the fined establishments included milk shops, RO plants, general stores, hotels, cuisine houses, pizza points, bakeries and large department stores. During the operations, large quantities of artificial and powdery milk-made curds, various over-the-counter edible products and hazardous dyes used in the manufacture of items seized from general and departmental stores were seized and destroyed.

 

A number of fined centers also did not have food business licenses, on which the center owners were warned to make it possible to obtain licenses on priority basis and ensure implementation of SOPs. During the inspection, water samples were taken from two RO plants (bottled water processing units) and sent for laboratory analysis. Director General Balochistan Food Atiqullah Khan said in this regard that the elimination of substandard and adulterated food and the protection of public health is the first duty of the authority, along with ensuring better quality of food, the authority also distributes various items to the public. Awareness about usage and defects is also being highlighted
