Report: Murtaza Zaib Zehri
Due to climate change, Pakistan has been facing abnormal rainfall and floods for decades, causing massive loss of life and property.
Due to these climate changes, the province is the most affected. Where untimely and untimely heavy rains are happening in 2022, heavy rains were recorded in Balochistan including the provincial capital Quetta during the monsoon.
Young social activist Adil Nazir has emphasized the importance of the role of youth in dealing with environmental changes. According to him, taking into account the severity of the environmental crisis, the active participation of the youth is very important.
Adil Nazir has demanded the government to conduct specific training programs to increase the capacity of the youth.
He said that in view of the increasing challenges of climate change, equipping the youth with modern knowledge and skills is the need of the hour.
He further suggested that the topics of climate change should be included in the education curriculum so that the students at the school and college level can gain awareness about environmental issues.
Such measures will prepare the students mentally for environmental protection initiatives and will be able to respond effectively to environmental challenges in the future.
Adil Nazir also stressed that the youth should be involved in environmental policy making to benefit from their insights and suggestions of the new generation.
According to him, it is not possible to deal effectively with climate change without the active participation of youth.
These initiatives are an important message to the government and educational institutions that it is very important to involve the youth in the fight against the environmental crisis.
In this regard, the relevant institutions are unable to take timely measures, the poor people have to suffer the consequences.
This year, like other provinces of the country, Balochistan also suffered a lot of loss of life and property due to unusual stormy rains.
According to the Meteorological Department, the 30-year record of rainfall was broken in the month of April this year. Balochistan received 353 percent of the normal rainfall and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa more than 90 percent.
While compared to the last 30 years, the rainfall this year from April 1 to April 18 was 99 percent more than the average rainfall.
According to experts, due to climate change, abnormal rains have occurred, due to which there has been an increase in the number of incidents of lightning strikes, floods in rivers and streams in Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The people of Balochistan did not come out of 2022 rains and damages of flooded railways that they have to deal with severe weather conditions again. The early weeks of summer passed without feathers due to cold weather.
In Balochistan, the winter and summer seasons last for 6 months, but since last few years the winter season schedule has been affected a lot, summers are very hot and winters are very cold.
The winter rainfall in the province was negligible, but heavy rains that started in the first week of March are still continuing.
The impact of climate change has become so severe that educational institutions in Balochistan have to be closed to avoid any possible damage due to heavy rains in cold areas.
On the other hand, government sources say that all possible measures are being taken to deal with the unusual situation of rains in the province. According to the authorities, Balochistan is the most affected due to climate change.
Last rains and floods caused a loss of 1.6 billion dollars in the province. The international community pledged $2.6 billion for recovery efforts, but has not kept its promise.
Until a decade ago, there was less rain in Balochistan, due to which the agriculture sector was badly affected. They are under the rain.
Due to global warming, meteorology and changes in the climate of the region, the intensity of rains and the risks of flooding are increasing, but despite repeated warnings by experts, there is a complete lack of immediate and effective measures to prevent disasters.
According to climatologists, some regions may become dangerously hot in the future and others may become uninhabitable due to sea level rise. Globally, the process of atmospheric and climate change has accelerated.
Due to which the intensity of rains has increased and there are rains even without the season, which has increased the period of destruction and damages, which is causing negative effects on the country’s economy, it is a cause of constant concern for the governments and administrations. A large portion of the government budget is being spent on flood relief.
According to experts, climate change will have a major impact on the employment and life of local people, because of this, every district of Balochistan is suffering from some serious problem.
The population of Balochistan is spread in remote areas and due to the lack of facilities, a small hazard does not take long to turn into a major disaster.
According to experts, increasing drought directly affects food production and delivery and in case of famine, people migrate to other areas.
