Quetta Web Report: Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) has completed the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report for the Reko Diq project as part of its commitment to responsible and sustainable mining.

This comprehensive document has been submitted to government authorities for review and approval.

The report is an important step in ensuring that RDMC’s operations meet global environmental and social standards.

Over a period of two and a half years, a team of impartial experts completed the social and environmental report in consultation with local communities, environmental organizations and government stakeholders.

The report assessed the potential environmental and social impacts of the project, such as air and water quality, biodiversity and the well-being of local populations.

The project design also includes mitigation strategies.

Ashley Price, ESIA Manager at Reko Diq Mining Company, said, “We are fully committed to the sustainable development of our project and the completion of this ESIA is a major milestone in ensuring the environmental responsibility of our project operations and the benefits to the affected communities.

The findings from these studies will guide us in implementing solutions that will enhance the positive impacts of the project and mitigate potential negative consequences.”

This ESIA report has been prepared to meet the legal requirements of the Balochistan Environmental Protection Act 2012 and the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014.

This report will also comply with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Environmental and Social Sustainability Performance Standards (2012), the World Bank Group (WBG) Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, the Equator Principles (EPs) and the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM).

While working on this report, RDMC held regular consultations with local communities and other key stakeholders to ensure that their concerns were taken into account.

The report is under review by government regulators in Balochistan and Sindh, as well as an international neutral company.

In line with its operator barrack policy, RDMC is committed to the responsible use of natural resources.

At the same time, we aim to create local employment opportunities, develop infrastructure and maximize benefits for local communities through environmental protection.
