Balochistan, known for its natural resources and cultural heritage, has long been subjected to neglect by the federal government. The latest example of this can be seen at the Nawab Akbar Bugti Cricket Stadium in Quetta, where players and the management have long been raising their voices about the lack of floodlights, yet no attention has been paid.
Now, as old floodlights are being removed from the stadiums in Lahore and Karachi during preparations for the World Cricket Championship, this “scrap” is being sent to Bugti Stadium.
This action reflects the ongoing mistreatment of Balochistan. When the federal government needs the resources of Balochistan, the province is remembered, but when it comes to providing resources to Balochistan, it is always ignored.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should be ashamed of this move. Purchasing new floodlights was not a huge financial burden, but instead, old and faulty lights are being sent to remind the people of Balochistan of their secondary status.
This move has been met with strong criticism from the public. It is not only an insult to Balochistan’s players but to the entire province.
Are the people of Balochistan not part of this country? Do their rights and needs not matter?
PCB’s actions serve as proof that Balochistan is always treated as a second-class citizen. The young cricketers here, who are determined to bring honor to the country, are being deprived of basic facilities. This is why talented players from Balochistan are unable to make a mark on the national level.
It is crucial that the federal government and relevant authorities put an end to this discriminatory treatment. Installing quality floodlights and providing other necessary facilities at Bugti Stadium will not only boost the morale of the players here but will also promote national unity.
Providing the people of Balochistan with their rightful share is an urgent need of the time.
