Quetta: The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has set up a symbolic hunger strike camp outside the Quetta Press Club to protest against the PECA Amendment Act.
Journalists have announced that they will continue their protest movement until their demands are met.
BUJ President Khalil Ahmed stated that journalists in Balochistan will not allow any attempt to curtail their freedom to succeed.
He demanded that the government immediately withdraw the amendments made to the PECA Act; otherwise, the protest will be intensified.
The symbolic hunger strike camp will continue until February 14 and has witnessed the participation of BUJ leadership, senior journalists, and a large number of media workers.
Various representatives from political parties, lawyers, civil society organizations, and traders also visited the protest camp to express solidarity with journalists.
According to the BUJ spokesperson, the struggle against the PECA Act will continue until the government revokes it.
Journalists have warned that if the government does not withdraw this “black law,” the protest will be further intensified.
This movement will persist to safeguard press freedom and defend journalists’ rights.
