Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has termed the Sahulat Bazaars project a first-of-its-kind initiative, saying it ensures affordable, quality food items while creating large-scale employment across the province.
She said the project has enabled 55,000 families to earn livelihoods and provided dignified jobs to 9,200 people at 46 Sahulat Bazaars. According to official figures, over 85 million consumers shopped at these markets in the past year, purchasing goods worth Rs4.25 billion.
Thirteen essential items, including fruits and vegetables, are being sold at wholesale rates, generating savings of more than Rs1.1 billion for consumers. Sahulat Bazaars are currently operating in multiple cities, including Wazirabad, Chunian, Jaranwala and Muzaffargarh.
The chief minister directed authorities to establish 30 more bazaars by June 30 and gradually expand the initiative to every tehsil of Punjab.
