Around 200 senior and advanced qualified inspectors of Balochistan Police in Quetta are currently in uncertainty over their promotion.

A reliable police source has told “Balochistan 24 Web” that the promotion process from Inspector (IP) to DSP (DSP) has been stalled for the past one year even though a clear deadline was also set in this regard.

According to sources, the inspectors were expecting that promotions in all categories would be completed before December 31, 2025 as this was the direction given in a special notification issued by the IG Balochistan.

The process of promotions from constable to SP has been completed, but the promotion from IP to DSP is yet to be completed.

Another police source said that the matter is currently under discussion between the police headquarters and the home department.

According to him, files are circulating between the two departments and the final approval process is not moving forward.

A senior officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that officers are sometimes asked to approach the home department and sometimes the IG office, which has further complicated the situation.

Many of the affected officers are nearing the end of their service.

According to sources, if the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting is not held soon, several officers may retire without being promoted.

As per the service rules, the rank attained at the time of retirement plays a fundamental role in determining the benefits and pension, hence this matter is linked to both professional reputation and financial future for these officers.

A reliable police source said that the officers have demanded from the higher authorities that a DPC be immediately held for the promotion of IP to DSP and the administrative hurdles between the home department and the police be removed.

They said that the deadline given by the IG should also be implemented.

Experts say that timely promotion in any security force plays an important role in maintaining professional morale.

According to them, if senior officers feel that administrative delay is affecting their career, then its effects can also be felt on the overall performance.

In a province like Balochistan where the police is facing several security challenges, this development is being considered important in the context of internal governance of the department.

An attempt was made to contact the Balochistan Home Department officials in this regard, but no response was received till the time of publication of the news.

In this regard, the victims have appealed to Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti to immediately take notice of this issue.
