President promulgates 3rd NAB amendment ordinance

President Arif Alvi has promulgated a third NAB amendment ordinance-2021.

Under the third NAB amendment Ordinance the references filed under anti money laundering act will remain under the jurisdiction of NAB and Accountability Courts (AC) will continue to hear these cases.
Under NAB 3rd amendment ordinance former president Asif Ali Zardari, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Maryam Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif will get no relief.

Under new NAB amendment ordinance the powers for removing chairman NAB from his office will rest with the president. The process which is adopted for sacking the judges will be adopted for removing chairman NAB.

The cases related to fraud have been again handed over to NAB. Madarba and B 4 u cases have also been returned to NAB.
The powers to determine of bail amount will stay with accountability courts.
Ordinance will come into effect from October 6 and all fraud and money laundering cases which were filed before October 06 will be dealt with by NAB. Old cases of fake accounts will continue.

The powers for removing chairman NAB from his office has been withdrawn from Supreme Judicial Council and now these powers will rest with the president.

The service term of chairman NAB will be 4 years under the NAB amendment ordinance.

Several ambiguities had come to fore after the promulgation of NAB amendment ordinance on October 06 and ministry of law had constituted a committee to clarify NAB ordinance.
