Islamabad, September 07, (Online): PPP Sindh President Nisar Khorro has said that local body elections cannot be held in Sindh until the final report of the 2017 census is received.
In Pakistan, only Sindh province has completed local body election tenure,It will be illegal to demarcate constituencies before the final report of the census and we cannot support anything unconstitutional.
He expressed these views while talking to the media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan in Islamabad.
He was accompanied by Senator Farhatullah Babar, Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab and Nazir Dhoki.
Nisar Khorro said that we had come to remind the Chief Election Commission that the census was conducted in 2017 on the basis of which the Election Commission itself had said that without the census there would be no constituencies.
He said that When the report was not received after the census, it was said that elections should be held temporarily for a time and in the interest of the country.
He also said that they agreed on the constitutional amendment once again by recognizing the constituencies without the final report of the census, but since 2017 the final report of the census has not come
He said that until the final report of the census is received, how can the constituencies be demarcated.
He added that it would be illegal to issue a notification of the first census report without it. Therefore, we are not ready to hold elections until the final report of the census is released.
He added that the Election Commission suddenly published the news that constituencies were being demarcated but we did not get the final report of the census.
He also said that the Election Commission has to convene a meeting on this issue and take a decision after consultation.
