The motion to introduce the Army Act Amendment Bill in the House was approved. The National Assembly passed the Army Act Amendment Bill 2020 with a majority opinion. The National Assembly also passed the Air Force Navy Act Bill 2020.
The Army Act Amendment Bill 2020 was supported by the opposition parties Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan People’s Party. Jamaat-e-Islami and FATA members walk out of the National Assembly.
After a meeting of the National Assembly and Senate Standing Committees for Defense in January, Law Minister Naseem announced that the aforesaid bills had been approved and no separate approval was required from the Senate Committee.
However, when the opposition protested the government’s extraordinary haste, the government had to postpone the summons convened by both houses on January 5 and the government agreed to a new timeline demanded by the opposition parties.
