Sibi: Political and tribal figures in Sibi have welcomed the decision to postpone the Sibi Mela, describing it as a timely measure given prevailing security concerns. At a joint press conference held at the MQM Pakistan district office, leaders from multiple parties stressed that holding the festival on the original dates could have posed risks to public safety and property.
The event was attended by Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party district president Mashar Ahmed Khan Luni, MQM Pakistan district president Mir Saleem Khan Marghzani, National Party Balochistan district president Mir Muhammad Aslam Gishkori, Sunni Tehreek provincial president Saadullah Khan Barozai, Awami National Party provincial leader Saeed Khan Khajjak, and senior leaders of Balochistan National Party Malik Sultan Dahpal, along with party workers.
Speaking to the media, the leaders criticized past misuse of the Sibi Mela for corruption and political favoritism, noting that previous arrangements often benefited influential individuals at the expense of ordinary livestock owners. They warned that excessive spending on minor events while neglecting the livestock market undermines the festival’s historical and cultural significance, discouraging breeders who contribute to its legacy.
The leaders called on the government to prioritize public safety, prevent extortion in government-contracted projects, restore all police checkpoints, strengthen patrolling, and ensure smooth execution of public works during the festival.
They further announced that all political parties in Sibi would join forces in a campaign against corruption, nepotism, and exploitation, asserting that citizens’ rights and accountability must take precedence over extravagant celebrations.
Emphasizing the importance of the livestock market, they said its prioritization within the Sibi Mela would benefit breeders, attract investment in rare and valuable animals, and safeguard the festival’s cultural and economic heritage.
