Quetta, February 9:
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Sunday said that the province and the state carry a perpetual responsibility for the sacrifices rendered by martyrs, pledging that their families and wounded heroes will never be left unsupported. He made these remarks while paying homage to police officers and personnel who embraced martyrdom in the January 31 terrorist attacks in Quetta.
The chief minister visited the homes of the martyred police personnel, where he met their grieving families, conveyed condolences, expressed solidarity, and offered Fateha. During the visits, he also spent time with the children of the martyrs, reassuring them with warmth and care that they are not alone and that their future is a shared responsibility of the entire nation.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti reiterated that safeguarding the welfare and rehabilitation of martyrs’ families is a primary obligation of the Government of Balochistan. He announced that, in accordance with the existing compensation policy, immediate financial assistance would be provided to the families, along with two government jobs—one within the police department and another in any other government institution. He instructed the Additional Chief Secretary Home to ensure that all appointment orders are issued within one week.
He further declared that the provincial government would fully bear the educational expenses of the martyrs’ children, ensuring their academic continuity without financial hardship. While paying tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed ASI Mahmood-ur-Rehman, the chief minister ordered that Sariab Police Station be named after him. He also disclosed that the police department is providing Rs 5.5 million to the families for house construction and essential needs, with further assistance to be arranged wherever required.
Condemning terrorism in the strongest terms, CM Bugti said that hostile forces, particularly India-backed terrorist elements, are attempting to undermine peace and stability in Pakistan and Balochistan. He asserted that such conspiracies would be thwarted and that every drop of innocent blood spilled on this land would be accounted for, warning that enemies of the state would be pursued to their logical end.
The chief minister informed that thorough, transparent, and professional investigations into the recent terrorist incidents are in progress, with investigation teams working round the clock. He assured that all those involved, including facilitators, would be brought to justice.
Reaffirming the government’s determination, he stated that the Balochistan government has the full capacity to counter terrorism and would continue its efforts until all threats to the state are eliminated.
Separately, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti took serious notice of an incident involving alleged police torture of a citizen arrested during the strike. Expressing strong displeasure over a police official slapping a citizen, he said that while maintaining law and order is vital, inhuman and unprofessional behavior by police personnel is unacceptable.
He emphasized that police officials must perform their duties strictly within the framework of law, making it clear that misuse of authority would not be tolerated. He stressed that safeguarding the dignity of every citizen is a fundamental responsibility of the state and a core principle of police professionalism.
The chief minister directed the concerned authorities to initiate immediate, transparent, and impartial legal action against the police official involved, ensuring accountability and preventing such incidents in the future. He reaffirmed that the Balochistan government remains committed to the rule of law, protection of human rights, and equal application of justice, underscoring that no official stands above the law.
Senior provincial ministers, advisers, parliamentarians, and senior civil and police officials accompanied the chief minister during the visits.
