Sibi Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf District President Malik Muhammad Iqbal Marghzani led a peaceful protest against the alleged illegal imprisonment of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, lack of medical facilities and arrests of party leaders. Written by Nadeem Babar Mughal
Senior Vice President Muhammad Yaqub Khajak, Vice President Gul Zaman Marri, General Secretary Mir Saifullah Rind, Secretary Information Kaleemullah Marghzani, President of Insaf Youth Wing Waseem Akram Hanbhi and other workers participated in the protest. The protesters demanded that party founder Imran Khan be provided with the best medical facilities immediately and be released from illegal detention. The participants said that depriving a political leader of basic human rights is against democratic principles.
The protest leaders said that the continuous arrests of party officials were tantamount to political revenge. They said that attempts to suppress political differences through reprisals were damaging democratic values in the country.
The protesters carried banners and placards with slogans like “Immediate release”, “Stop political revenge” and “Respect democracy”.
The participants protested peacefully and demanded that the authorities release all arrested workers and remove obstacles to the political process. Speakers warned that the scope of the protest would be expanded if the demands were not accepted. The demonstration ended peacefully, however, the participants vowed to continue the struggle. Tight security arrangements were made by the police during the protest.
